"The venerable Humbucking Pickup has been around for some 60 years. Originally conceived to reduce the chronic hum and noise created by the single coil pickups of the day, the Seth Lover design had an unexpected by-product. This was the inadvertent creation of what has become known as the iconic “Humbucking Sound”. Thousands upon thousands of pickups with this very design have been made since. Re-designs, reproductions and reissues have been manufactured by scores of companies both here and abroad (even by Gibson itself). Very Few have been able to truly emulate the classic Humbucking sound of the early 50’s and 60’s guitars. This is said to be due to several possible and contributory factors including; natural aging, availability of original materials
and manufacturing nuances that are either now unknown, unavailable, or just too much trouble to duplicate. The Jimmy Wallace Vintage PAF offers a glimpse into the past, providing the sounds and look of the iconic vintage PAF. This has been achieved through painstaking research, seeking out hard-to-find materials and faithfully utilizing processes of the early initial fabricators.

cosmetic match to the original versions made in the '50's and early '60's.





The original vintage “T-Top” Gibson Humbucking pickups were introduced as an updated version of the venerable PAF and early Patent No. pickups. They are characterized by the “T” impressed on the top of each of the internal bobbins. It is widely believed that the ”T” was added as a reference, aiding the assemblers in keeping congruent directionality in an ever-growing mass production manufacturing scenario. Typically considered a product of the early 70’s, there are examples of this Humbucking version found in some late 60’s guitars. The T-Tops are similar to the orginal PAF and Patent No. pickups offering minor internal geometric and material differences. They are generally thought of as having a slightly cleaner, or less muddy sound. While perhaps less than well received as the PAF/Patent No. replacement, they ultimately came to be known for their inherent “musical” quality and somewhat distinctive sound. They are sought-after today, and are typically valued as vintage components tend to be.
